Volunteers on Watch

Ever wonder what your kids are up to during recess? Want a chance to join in the fun — and maybe relive a bit of your own childhood? Now’s your opportunity!

Our Volunteers on Watch (VOW) program invites parents and guardians to spend time on the playground, connecting with students and helping make recess a positive, active experience for everyone.

What You’ll Do:

  • Play games and join in on the fun
  • Be a friendly referee when needed
  • Cheer students on and encourage positive play
  • Bring your own favorite game to share (optional!)

When: Every Wednesday
Time: 30-minute sessions

  • 12:05 – 12:35 PM: 4th & 5th Grades
  • 12:35 – 1:05 PM: Kindergarten & 1st Grades
  • 1:05 – 1:35 PM: 2nd & 3rd Grades

 Before You Arrive:

  • You must be an LWSD-approved volunteer. (Not approved yet. Apply here)
  • Check in at the front office before heading to the playground.
  • Wear your volunteer badge and pick up a VOW vest from the office cabinet.
  • Dress comfortably — sneakers are encouraged!
  • A list of easy-to-follow games will be provided if you’d like some inspiration.

 A Few Guidelines:

  • Please be mindful of your words and interactions.
  • If you notice a conflict between students, step back and allow the recess teachers to manage the situation — they’re trained to guide students through these moments.

Bring your energy, enthusiasm, and smile — and help make recess a highlight of the school day!
